Systematic Theology for Kids
Before teaching what God is like, you must start with the foundational truth that God exists
(His aseity and eternal nature).
GOD IS
LESSON 1: GOD IS
The Foundation: God IS (Existence & Self-Sufficiency)
- God Is Eternal (Always Was, Always Is)
- What it means: God has no beginning and no end.
- Kid translation: God never had a birthday, and He will never grow old.
- Example: Numbers go on forever, but God is even bigger than forever.
- God Is Self-Sufficient (He Needs Nothing)
- What it means: God does not rely on anyone or anything to exist.
- Kid translation: God doesn’t need snacks, sleep, a house, or even us to be happy.
- Example: A toy needs batteries to work, but God has His own life inside Himself.
Object Lessons to Teach “God IS”
- The Birthday Lesson: Ask kids when their birthday is, then ask when their parents’ or grandparents’ birthdays are. Trace it back to show everyone has a beginning. Then ask, “When is God’s birthday?” Use this to explain that God always was.
The Big Four “Omni” Attributes
- Omnipresent (God is everywhere)
- What it means: God is in all places at the exact same time.
- Kid translation: There is nowhere you can go where God is not.
- Example: He is with you at school, in bed, and across the world.
- Omniscient (God knows everything)
- What it means: God has perfect, complete knowledge of all things.
- Kid translation: God knows everything that ever happened, is happening, or will happen.
- Example: He knows how many hairs are on your head and your thoughts before you speak.
- Omnipotent (God is all-powerful)
- What it means: God has unlimited power and authority.
- Kid translation: God can do anything that can be done, and nothing is too hard for Him.
- Example: He spoke the giant stars into space and calms big storms.
- Omnibenevolent (God is all-good)
- What it means: God is perfectly good, kind, and loving.
- Kid translation: Everything God does is good, and He always loves us.
- Example: He gives us good gifts and always does what is right.
Easy Object Lessons to Teach These
- For Omnipresence: Use air. You cannot see it, but it fills the whole room and surrounds you completely wherever you go.
- For Omniscience: Play a game of I Spy or 20 Questions. Show them how hard it is for us to guess things, but explain that God never has to guess because He already knows.
- For Omnipotence: Look at a globe or space picture. Ask them what the strongest thing they can think of is (like a superhero or a bulldozer), then explain that God created the whole universe just by speaking.
LESSONS:
God Is The Creator (The Source of All)
What it means: Everything that exists comes from Him.
Kid translation: Everything you can see, touch, or hear was thought up and made by God.
Example: A painter needs paint and canvas, but God made the world out of nothing.

- God is three in one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (The Trinity).
- Bibliology (The Study of the Bible)
- The Bible is God’s true and safe word.
- It helps us know who God is and how to live.
- Anthropology & Hamartiology (Creation and Sin)
- People are made in God’s special image.
- Sin is disobeying God and breaks our friendship with Him.
- Christology & Soteriology (Jesus and Salvation)
- Jesus is fully God and fully man, who died and rose again.
- Salvation is God’s free gift of forgiveness through Jesus.
- Ecclesiology & Eschatology (The Church and the Future)
- The church is a family of believers, not just a building.
- Jesus will return one day to make everything new.
