The Attributes of God- God is the King
HOOK:
Dress up in a King’s costume. Put on a robe, crown and carry a scepter. Discuss that a king is the highest ruler in a country that is ruled by royal families. In the United States, the leader of the country is our President, but in England and other countries, the leader is the King.
A king wears a royal robe and a crown, he has a throne that only he sits on, a scepter that he carries that shows his authority. He is in charge and everyone in the kingdom has to follow his rules.
– Let the kids try on different parts of the costume
Question: Who is our King? (Jesus) We are going to learn today about Jesus the King.
Sing: “He is the King of Kings, He is the Lord of Lords.
His name is Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
Ohhhh! He is the King!”
BOOK:
The idea we want the children to understand is that Jesus is the Ultimate King, and whatever He tells us to do, we must obey. He is our loving Heavenly Father and He cares for us, but He is the Ruler and Creator of all and we need to show Him the greatest respect and reverence just like you would if you were before a King’s throne.
When someone comes into a King’s throne room, they bow down. They don’t just come in noisy and crazy, talking to other people, playing games and fooling around. When we come to God when we pray or when we are in God’s house, we need to come in quietness and respect, not playing with toys or other kids around us. That’s why we shut our eyes and fold our hands when we pray, so that we can think about Jesus our King without poking or talking to others or having somebody bug us.
Verses to use in your discussion (defining words when necessary):
1 Tim.1:17- “the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.”
Rev.19:16- “On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”
Psalm 47:7- “God is the king of all the earth.”
Psalm 45:6- “Justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.”
Daniel 7:27- “His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom.”
LOOK:
A king is someone who tells other people what he wants them to do, and who is able to make them do it.
God is the great King. He has a kingdom. It is made up of those people who do what He tells them. They are scattered all over the world. They cannot see their King. How do they know what He wants them to do? He has told them, in the Bible.
When God brings people into His kingdom, He gives them His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit changes those people. Before, they had disobeyed God. Now, they want to obey Him: they begin to love doing what He says.
God is a King in His people’s lives. His laws tell them what He wants done. His Spirit gives His people the will to do it. So what God wants is done: He is King. Tell Me About God, by Susan Harding
TOOK:
God is the King of Creation, He is the King of me. I need to bow down, worship and serve the King. Discuss with the children how they can serve Jesus, their King (loving Him, praying to Him, being kind to one another, obeying our parents and teachers, sharing what God has blessed us with).
Memory Verse: “Jesus is my king and my God.” Psalm 44:4

We give you honor and praise, our King of Kings!
